WSP’s Head of Profession for ITS, Ian Patey has been elected for an unprecedented third year as Chair of the UK’s Intelligent Transport Society, saying he’ll use the year to cement the organisation’s position in leading the conversation about Intelligent Mobility in the country and beyond.

Patey’s role was confirmed at the ITS (UK) AGM held at HORIBA MIRA in the English Midlands.  His Vice Chair, Ryan Hood of TRL was also re-elected.

While Patey has been chair the organisation has introduced the ITS (UK) Summit, agreed a partnership with the DfT-led Transport Technology Forum and forged closer links with ITS Arab.  It has also reorganised its membership levels to better reflect the scale and influence of the ITS industry, created industry-leading initiatives such as the new scale for Connected Vehicles and expanded its support for younger professionals.

“ITS (UK) plays such an important role in promoting the great things our industry does.” Patey explained.  “As Chair I found I had only delivered about half of what I wanted to do in my time, so I’m grateful to fellow Executive Members on the Council for giving me another year.

“We bring together public and private sector organisations alongside academia and micro-organisations to lead the future mobility conversation and I encourage as many members as possible to take part by upgrading to Executive Membership status, which is a clear recognition of an organisation’s leadership role in the British ITS industry.”

ITS (UK) Secretary General Jennie Martin added, “Having someone with the decades-long experience in a senior position in our industry volunteering to take on a third year in the Chair is a clear sign that we’re doing something right.  it underlines again how ITS (UK) is a real thought leader across the transport technology industry, delivering knowledge, connections and advocacy.  One example of our influence is that an automotive leader like HORIBA MIRA is playing an active role in the organisation and hosting a key event like our AGM.”

ITS (UK) will deliver further details about its partnerships with ITS Arab and the Transport Technology Forum in due course.
